Yet another life gone by.....

Yet another life gone by.....

She made quick friends in this metro city even though she was from a rural village of north Karnataka. She used to work as if today she has to win the challenge and smile as if million sorrows should feel shame. Gouri was a girl with charming face and heart full of kindness and love towards people around her.  It was one bad morning few months back when Gouri’s mother screamed to skies when her husband Ramanna did not wake up as usual. His heart had stopped functioning and so is the fate of gouri and her mother. Gouri had just finished her graduation with distinction from a government college in the neighbouring village and had dreams to become a teacher and work in the school which she had studied; she aimed towards the betterment of her village children by providing them a good education. Ramanna - a noble farmer was proud to have a daughter like Gouri and was a backbone for all her dreams. Gouri’s mother Sitavva, a housewife, had never been out of village and was unaware how the outside world looks like. Like her husband, Sitavva was also in support of Gouri and her day would pass by taking care of her entire world which consists only of her husband and her lovely daughter.

Their life would have been a fairytale of love and warmth amidst a scarcity of so called facilities that villages do not get, only if this morning would not have come…what was wrong with Ramanna’s health ? nobody knew.. after all it was Ramanna’s mouth that should have let his wife ad Gouri know that his heart has got a heavy pain but he made it shut..he thought, the pain is temporary and would be healed by morning but God had some other plans for him. That unanswered pain made Sitavva and Gouri all alone without the manly support in the family.. They cried for days and months at the same time their stomachs rumbled of hunger.. after all how many days the neighbours would have brought them food.. and whom could the mother and daughter  blame.. Gouri could not wait any more for the government  job as she was aware in our country the process of recruitments involve months..

So she packed her bags, convinced her mother that she would come soon with a job at hand and both would shift to Bangalore . At least the farther they are from this village the memories of her shattered dreams and their loneliness would haunt them less…

This is how she came to Silicon City and started searching for a job. It was not difficult for her to get a job in a factory with a good position .. soon she found a shared P.G with another girl working same factory but in night shifts .Gouri started off well, soon she bought a cell phone so that she could call the neighbor shop keeper kaka in her village and could talk to her mom . It had been just two months, Gouri got noted among her colleagues for her warm behaviour and neat work. She soon made few good friends and they become her family in the big town.

Every day Gouri would start early from her P.G , would go to nearby library to read the news paper and then to factory. Evening she would reach room by 7.30 P.M. after waiting in bus for hours in the heavy traffic.

Life was a smooth ride after a big hurdle which she jumped and evolved as a new girl. But there was another hurdle with the face of a P.G owner which she failed to notice. Gouri would talk to P.G owner and his wife daily on the way back to her room and would share life happenings with them.

One normal day as usual when she was heading back to her room she stopped by to speak with the P.G owner aunti who was sitting on her entrance steps. Both spoke for about 20 minutes about Gouri’s work, her mom and aunti’s house hold chores. After the talk  Gouri took leave and moved towards her room. The door was open, she presumed her roommate has not yet left for work and went on to kitchen to keep the vegetables she brought on the way back home. Soon, there was thud of door  and was locked from inside, Gouri again thought it might be her roommate and came out to talk to her holding a glass of water in one hand and cell phone on the other. She was taken aback when she saw the person at the door who was now coming in her direction was not her roommate but rather it was her P.G owner. His gestures were not decent but she tried to talk to him in a respected manner. He was dumb to her words and was speedily walking towards Gouri. Gouri tried to call someone from her phone but she was unable to dial the number in fear. She shouted but by now his hands were trying to catch hold of her. She ran to kitchen and closed the door. With one hand she locked the door and with other hand she was constantly trying to press numbers trying to recall her friend’s numbers. It was of no use, soon within seconds the kitchen door was banged and broken to pieces with the bully force of the devil. She shouted for help but nobody listened. There were hardly any windows in that room and walls were sound proof. He was a huge man and gouri was a puny girl. All her efforts to shout and escape went in vein when that huge bully forced her to the act of inhumanity. Words can’t replace the agony and pain that she went through in those hours and that cruel man resembles not less than a mindless and heartless creature which lives in a dirty water. Her life shattered again and this time it was unrecoverable.  She was left on the floor senseless and lifeless. Her phone rang the number of shopkeeper kaka , it was time at which daily Gouri used to call shopkeeper kaka and sitavva would come to his shop to attend her call. But today sitavva waited and when she did not get any call she tried dialed the number herself but nobody attended at this end. Thus another crime was added to the history, will the culprit get punished ? Probably yes !

How I wish a clever girl like Gouri would have been aware of Smart Suraksha. Just one app would have saved her life as well as her mother’s.But hardly we girls from the rural part of India are aware of such things, hardly we girls get access to these things.. life is same for all, sometimes our life is not just ours, many others are depending on us.. society rarely cares for girl’s safety, thanks to media such heinous incidents are coming to light nowadays and safety of women is being considered . I wish girls like Gouri would also get to know about such things and one day this world will become a better place to live in..
